Also known as the “marvellous city”. The carnival's sanctuary. Acclaimed for its natural environment, for the samba, the statue of Christ the Redemeer, located at a height of 700 metres over sea level, blessing the city from Mount Corcovado's peak, with spectacular views that I couldn't enjoy thanks to a really thick fog. You couldn't even see the Christ, so people kept waiting for the fog to clear, and at some point there were too many of us. Suddenly, to the joy and happines of everyone, and amongst cheers and loud applauses, the fog started to clear out right where the impressive 38 metres statue was. I had just enough time to take some pictures of it. When we came down the Corcovado, we (Angela a brazilian girl I met at the hostel and I) went to Santa TerBusy roads packed with people and street stalls with its owner patiently waiting for someone to notice their goods. Without lowering your guard, one wanders around, taking good note of everything, such a rich environment deserves your attention.
They say about Rio, and I agree, that it is probably the happiest city in the world. Life here is an endless succession of events, colour, music, perfect bodies that their owners show off at the beach, mind you, only some of them, the vast majority are women with bellies and butts that I wouldn't want for me. Compared to them, I'm actually an amateur!! no wonder if we bear in mind the local dishes, a lot of fried stuff and sweets, bread, pies filled with meat and cheese, really heavy and rich food. They are also natural born seducers, people nearly dance when they walk, maybe because the carnival is round the corner.
And for those of you who wonder, yes, you can see poverty here, not people starving to death, but people without their basic needs covered. In this country, like in many others, wealth is very badly shared. Despite all of this, I'm sadly leaving this amazing city, although as I said a few days ago, if you ever come to Brazil do not forget what I told you about Salvador de Bahia. and do not be fooled by bad advertising, Rio isn't more dangerous than any other big city, anyone using their common sense you have nothing to worry about. When people talk about other countries's dangers, i always say that the only place wher I've been robbed and threatened with a knife was Madrid, in a busy road and in day light, and I don't say that Spain is a dangerous country.
Brasilians are extremely kind and welcoming, and I haven't had the feeling of being in danger for a single minture, and I do recommend everyone to visit this country.
